About this place
One detail that stands out on the menu is how carefully it specifies thin or thick noodles for each noodle dish. The light thin noodles accompany ramen and wonton ramen, letting the clear soy-sauce broth speak for itself. By contrast, thick noodles are served with dishes such as moyashi ramen, with its soy-based thickened sauce, and the vegetable-packed tanmen and miso ramen. There are plenty of other thick-noodle variations, too: rajan-men, a spicy noodle soup with Chinese chives; paiko-men, topped with meat; and spicy negi-miso ramen, whose heat level can be chosen. The range makes it easy to pick the sort of substantial bowl you are in the mood for.
For a more filling meal, the set combinations are a useful option. Alongside the classic ramen with half fried rice, there is ramen with half curry, fragrant with spices, and ramen with half a Chinese rice bowl topped with a thickened sauce. Another choice is ramen with gyoza and half a serving of rice, a satisfying pairing that brings together familiar Chinese-diner favourites in manageable portions.
There is more to the menu than noodles, with a generous selection of stir-fries and small plates. Set meals include meat and vegetables stir-fried together, liver and Chinese chives stir-fried together, and hoikoro—the miso-flavoured stir-fry of cabbage and pork. Mifuku’s gyoza are available as a full plate or a smaller serving, a handy size if you fancy another dish alongside bottled beer or Hi-Sour.
The dining room has counter and table seating, and its relaxed atmosphere makes it comfortable to eat alone. Mifuku is open from 11:30 to 14:00 for lunch, and from 17:00 to 19:00 in the evening. Payment is cash only.
